Three members of Grammy-nominated group The Nelons die in plane crash
Fans have been left devastated by The Nelons’ final Instagram post, shared just hours before four family members of the group tragically died in a plane crash.
Jason and Kelly Nelon Clark, their daughter Amber, and son-in-law Nathan Kistler were en route to a concert with pilot Larry Haynie, his wife Melissa, and the family’s assistant Melodi Hodges when their plane crashed over Wyoming, killing all seven on board.
Three members of The Nelon family have passed away after being involved in a plane crash, their management has confirmed.
Yesterday (26 July), a plane crash occurred at around 1:06pm in an area north of Gillette, Wyoming USA and a ‘wildland fire was caused near the crash site’.
Seven people are reported as having passed away as a result of the crash. Autumn Nelon Streetman – one of the four members of popular US gospel group The Nelons – has confirmed her three fellow band and family members Jason Clark, Kelly Nelon Clark and their daughter Amber Kistler were three of those killed.
There’s our wonderful pilot right there, that’s Larry,” Jason can be heard saying in the video, panning over to Larry before turning to his wife. “And this is the co-pilot who handles everything.”
As they discussed their meal plans, Jason admitted they were “all about the food”. Tragically, he ended the video with a promise they couldn’t fulfil: “We’ll check in later.”
Autumn and Jamie will return home for now to Kelly’s brother, Todd Nelon and his wife, Rhonda, to begin the hard tasks that lie ahead. Please keep them, the Kistler family, the Haynie family and the family of Melodi Hodges in your prayer,” the statement further highlighted.
The Nelons, forming part of the Gaither Homecoming concert series, was started back in the 1970s by Kelly’s father Rex Nelon, who also earned fame with The LeFevres. In 2016, the group received a nod into the Gospel Music Association’s Hall of Fame.
Kelly, alongside her distinct musical career, showcased her acting talent, making appearances in the ABC fantasy drama Resurrection, and re-enacting scenes for the docu-series Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda. She was once married to Jerry Thompson, who also joined in The Nelons. Later, Kelly tied knot with Jason Clark, who took the lead vocalist spot in the group.
